NFL Free Agency: Breaking Down the Free Agent QBs

This is perhaps the best and most intriguing QB free agent class we’ve ever seen. This class is stacked with Future Hall of Famers and Pro Bowlers and former Top 10 picks. Some of these players obviously won’t sniff the open market. Can you see Jerry Jones letting go of Dak Prescott? Well, did we ever think Brady or Rivers would be playing somewhere else? Probably not. There is one thing that is guaranteed to happen this offseason, Teddy Bridgewater is about to get paid.

Marcus Mariota is the former No. 2 overall pick in 2015 but has slowly declined and Tannehill has become the Titans QB1. Although Tannehill is also a Free Agent, the Titans want him back per some reports. Mariota being the odd man out with a 29-32 as a starter in 5 years. A drastic dropoff from his 36-5 record at Oregon. For Mariota, a change of scenery could be the recipe for a career turnaround in 2020 with the right team and staff. Best Fit: Patriots, Chargers, Bears

Ryan Tannehill saw a career resurrection in 2019 that brought life to a team lacking a true heartbeat at QB. Tannehill knew the whole time that he deserved to be the starter and Mike Vrabel had the guts to bench the former No. 2 overall pick and franchise QB Marcus Mariota, who wasn’t getting it done. Obviously, having Derrick Henry at RB helped the situation. Tannehill has recently been voted the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year and he made his first Pro-Bowl. He finished 2019, 1 game shy of leading the Titans to the Super Bowl. Tannehill threw 22 TD to only 6 INT in 11 games as the starter. He will certainly get paid this offseason. The Titans have said that they would like to keep Tannehill but as you can see, there are a lot of QB options this offseason. Best Fit: Chargers, Titans

The former No. 1 overall pick and the first member of the NFL’s 30-30 club. To throw 30 Touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season will probably never happen again. The former FSU Heisman Trophy winner has shown some flashes of stardom but his inconsistency is an issue. Hopefully, the recent Lasik eye surgery will help with those interceptions. It’s hard to see those 200 lb defense backs all over the field. If he can’t succeed with Bruce Arians, the QB whisperer, then it is unlikely he’ll succeed with anyone. Arians worked with Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Carson Palmer throughout his career. There are a lot of rumors out there that the Buccs aren’t ready to give up on Jameis and may give him the franchise tag to see what a second season with Arians would look like. Best Fits: Buccaneers, Dolphins, Broncos

Dak Prescott and his marriage to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will not be ending soon. Can you imagine Jerry letting go of Dak at such a young age while he let Jason Garrett stay around about 5 years too long? The former Rookie of the Year and 2 x Pro-Bowler will be having a big payday this offseason and most think it will be with ‘America’s Team’ in Dallas. Best Fit: Cowboys

Teddy Bridgewater is going to be a very wealthy man before the offseason is over. Bridgewater is a former Pro Bowl QB with the Vikings and is only 27 years old. He looks to be healthy and in good form mentally and physically from a critical knee injury that nearly ended his career. Some say it was also life-threatening. So, with that being said, we know Teddy can win over his teammates and his resiliency. Bridgewater is a former 1st round QB from Louisville that was on the fast track to a perennial pro-bowler. Best Fits: Patriots, Chargers, Redskins

Philip Rivers, the modern-day Iron Man, has yet to miss a start since entering the league in 2004, is a free agent for the first time. Rivers deserved better in Southern California. A future hall of fame QB that believes he still has what it takes to play at a high level is going to have plenty of suitors this offseason. Best Fits: Colts, Buccaneers, Titans

Drew Brees is a free agent, but don’t get excited he’s not leaving New Orleans. He’s already said on IG that he’ll be back in the LA Bayou next season. Brees is a 13-time Pro-Bowler, Comeback POY, SB Champ, and so much more. Let’s just look at all the Records he has. He’s Number 1 All-Time in Passes Completed, Yards, TDs, Passing Yards Per Game, Completion %, and Passes Completed a Game. The reason he’s not called the GOAT is because of Brady’s 6 SB Rings to Brees’s 1. He’s not leaving New Orleans. Best Fit: Fits Every Team But Staying in NO

Now, for the best QB in NFL History. The GOAT, TB12, but he prefers Tom Brady. The Buzz around the NFL combine is that Brady is going to legitimately sign with another team this offseason. But who? The Patriots are willing to offer him an excess of 30 mill a year. Brady, however, wants more weapons around him. Some teams that have been linked to Brady is the Chargers with 2 WR Weapons in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. If the Chargers resign Elkeler and Hunter Henry you have to think that is enough. Other teams linked to TB12 is the Raiders, but can you see Brady wanting to spend his season in Vegas? Let’s be real. They do have a talented roster though. The sleeper team in the mix has to be Mike Vrabel and the Titans. Clearly, if they resign King Henry at RB and add another WR they’d be a perfect fit for Brady. We’ll see. One thing we know is there will be a lot of teams calling Brady’s agent. Best Fits: Chargers, Patriots, Colts, Titans

Other Notable Free Agent QBs: Case Keenum, Chase Daniel, Chad Henne, Colt McCoy
