NFL Week 2: T-Sizzle Back in Baltimore and How Much Will AB and TB12 Connect? Top Matchups to Watch Week 2

Fun fact of week 2 is that the Arizona Cardinals DE Terrell Suggs, AKA T-Sizzle, and Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury were both drafted in the 2003 draft. Suggs went No. 10 to the Ravens and the Patriots took Kingsbury with the 201st overall pick. Belichick saw something in him! Amidst sexual assault allegations, Antonio Brown wasn’t penalized by the league and now its fully in the Patriots court and it looks like he will be suiting up. People might have forgotten how dominant AB was and now he gets to play with the GOAT? Are you kidding me? We all remember what Randy Moss did when he and Belichick came together.

What’s the deal with the Ravens? Are the Ravens really that good or are the Dolphins just pathetic? Not sure but Lamar Jackson did his best Drew Brees impression and had a career day throwing 5 TD passes and didn’t turn the ball over. He threw 5 TD passes in 7 starts last season. Think about that for a second. He started 7 games including leading the team to the playoffs. He threw 5 TD passes in 7 games last year and 5 last week. Definitely silencing some critics. Especially the scouts that recommended he tried Running Back. Terrell Suggs started 229 games for the Ravens in 15 seasons. Baltimore is family to Suggs and he made that clear he is going in there with the nastiness that made him an All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year in ’11, Defensive Rookie of the Year in ’03, and most importantly, a Super Bowl Champ. Most of the eyes are going to be on the battle of former Heisman trophy winners with Kyler Murray vs. Jackson. If the Ravens are for real this game will be over early. The Ravens aren’t the same as the Lions. If they build a lead they will step on you and end it.

What is Austin Ekeler going to give us for an encore? Coming off of a 3 TD game in which he forced 8 missed tackles what can we expect against the Lions defense? As I mentioned Ekeler forced 8 missed tackles, 3 coming on rushes and 5 coming off receptions. Gordon never forced 8 missed tackles in a game last season. The Chargers are also 5-0 without Gordon dating back to last season. If he wants to holdout that is on him but the Chargers are moving on. We’re hearing he’ll be back between week 6 and week 8 which will give the Chargers one of the top RB tandems in all of the NFL. It’ll be scary. What are the Lions going to do to stop him? If you stop him then you’ll force Rivers to connect with Keenan Allen. Pick your poison, the Chargers are a confident group under Anthony Lynn. One other side note, when is Gates going to get the call? Let’s do this Telesco.

Do They Actually Play D in Green Bay? We’ll see if Week 1 Was a Fluke…

We got a division rivalry on our hands here at Lambeau. The Vikings come into town looking to build on their convincing win over the Falcons and the Packers coming off a defensive clinic against the Bears in week 1. Kirk Cousins against Aaron Rodgers head-to-head is 2-0-1. He averages 380 yards per game with 10 TDs to 1 Interception. Rodgers is averaging 276 yards per game with 5 TDs and 0 Interceptions. The last time the Packers had a top 10 scoring defense they won the Super Bowl in 2010. Nobody talks too much about the Packers defense but Rodgers told the world to pay attention to the D this year. If week 1 is any indication of how good that D will be then they’ll be a very scary team late in the season.

Can Tom Brady Avoid His 11th Career Loss in Miami?

If Tom Brady has one Kryptonite it would be playing in Miami. Brady has 10 career losses in Miami and the Dolphins are 5-1 in the last 6 in Miami. Another storyline for this one is the Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was with the Patriots for 15 years as an LB coach and defensive play-caller after Matt Patricia departed. The Dolphins got blown out week 1 59-10 and the defense made Lamar Jackson look like a 10 time pro-bowl QB. Following the massacre at the hands of the Ravens, multiple Dolphins players requested trades.

Defense Wins Championships, Two of the Greatest Matchup in Khalil and Von…

For those die-hard football fanatics that love defense, the Bears-Broncos game features two of the best. It doesn’t get any better than Von Miller and Khalil Mack on the edge. Causing nightmares for QBs and Offensive Tackles. Fans in the AFC West were very happy to see Mack leave the division. Miller, however, has kind of been a forgotten face in the NFL because of the limited success of the Broncos recently. Miller is a 7 x Pro-Bowler. Miller and Mack won Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards and they each are 3 x All-Pro’s. They have some very similar numbers since 2015. They both have 49 sacks. Miller has 106 QB Hits, 53 Tackles for Loss, and 13 Forced Fumbles. Whereas, Mack has 90 QB Hits, 63 Tackles for Loss, and 14 Forced Fumbles. Those areas dominant of edge defenders as you’ll find in this league.

Keeping it in the AFC West we have the Raiders-Chiefs whose rivalry dates back to the AFL in the ’60s. Raiders have new blood at RB with Josh Jacobs, a product of Nick Saban’s Tide. Jacobs became the 7th RB in the Super Bowl era to have at least 2 TDs and 100+ total scrimmage yards in their first NFL game. Sammy Watkins had a coming-out party week 1 with 198 yards and 3 TDs. People forget he was the No. 4 overall pick from Clemson in 2014. With Tyreek Hill out with an injury look for Watkins to re-establish himself as one of the games top Wide Receivers.

2018 NFC Championship Rematch

The best matchup of the weekend comes with the Saints-Rams game. This is a potential NFC Championship matchup. Winning this Sunday doesn’t change the fact that a bogus no-call ended the Saints season in last years playoffs. But it is a chance at a small chance of redemption. Alvin Kamara finally gets to be “the guy” in the backfield with no more Mark Ingram and Michael Thomas is coming off signing is “mega-million” dollar contract. If the Rams can get the early season version of Todd Gurley they can win this game. Let’s look at Gurley’s last 18 games. The first 8 games he averaged 23 touches per game, 139 scrimmage yards per game, and 15 TDs. His last 10 games including the playoffs he has averaged 16 touches per game, 94 scrimmage yards per game, and 8 TDs. This will be an outstanding football game with one team feeling cheated a year ago. Look for this to be a hard-hitting game.
