Phoenix Suns: TJ McConnell Needs to Follow Monty Williams to Phoenix

The Phoenix Suns got their guy in Monty Williams, the well-respected 76ers Assistant, and former Pelicans Head Coach. Now they need to find their floor general. Devin Booker isn’t a Point Guard and is better off the ball. The Suns have capable scoring at the Forward and Center position but someone to get them the ball in the right places is something they don’t have. Imagine what Deandre Ayton would have done if he had a true point guard to distribute the ball? My guess is he’d avg 20 ppg instead of 16.

McConnell brings an incredible basketball IQ to the court as well as great leadership in the locker room. Ask any player to play with TJ and they’ll tell you the same thing. The former UofA standout is a 6th man on his hometown Philidelphia 76ers and is a big piece to their current title run. He elevates the play of the other 4 on the floor, imagine what Booker can do with a pass-first PG like McConnell? Or Josh Jackson? Or, wait for it… Deandre Ayton?

TJ’s best quality is being a team player that while at Arizona put his school first before his individual accolades. When a player is able to focus on the group’s success, it leaves the way for players to have individual success, which is exactly what we see happen to T.J. right now. – University of Arizona HC, Sean Miller

embiid_tjAs a teammate, it doesn’t get better. He’s earned the nickname ‘Floor General’ and ‘McClutchell’ from his teammates. Joel Embiid as called him the GOAT with a few last second GW buckets. For many scouts and players around the league, TJ’s rise comes as a shock but for anybody that has played with TJ or any UofA fan, TJ is the GOAT.

There are a lot of holes on the Suns, most of them coming with ownership, but TJ would fill a glaring need for the Suns because he plays non-stop defense, his leadership, and he’d be a fan favorite not only by Arizona fans but all Suns fans.
