When the Patriots ran wild against the Chargers in the second round of last years playoffs, Belichick exposed a glaring hole in the Bolts Defense. They needed to get bigger and more physical on the defensive line. Ironically, the player to fill the biggest need is still sitting there. Available for any team to take. Tom Telesco needs to sign the former All-Pro, Ndamukong Suh. It would come at an outrageous price but a player that can help that defense alongside Brandon Mebane.
The Patriots ran over, around, and through the Chargers defense in the playoffs. Gus Bradley showed little confidence in their physicality on the defensive front when he chose to play 7 DB’s instead of Linebackers in the playoffs. Which worked perfectly against the Ravens, however, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick would counter that with a power running attack led by Sony Michel, the latest 1st round GEM to land in the Patriots lap. They torched the Bolts for 155 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. The Chargers have already brought in former Defensive Player of the Year and 3-time pro-bowl middle linebacker, Thomas Davis. Davis and Suh would bring a ton of experience to this defense.
Since Mebane and Suh are both older, the Chargers drafted 6’6 Defensive Tackle Jerry Tillery with the 28th pick. If the Rookie would be so lucky as to learn from Suh and Mebane, there is no telling his ceiling in this league. Another perk for Suh, he wouldn’t have to move far after playing last season with the LA Rams. As mentioned earlier, the biggest obstacle would be his price tag.
